Newspapers

A guide to our contemporary, historic and business newspaper sources for the UK and other countries

Newspapers can be a great source of information for research. Their news stories and editorial opinion can give you a fascinating angle on your research topic, whether it's contemporary or historic. And there is more to newspapers than the stories they contain. For example, they can also be a valuable resource for linguistic, business or social trend analysis, or for ascertaining public opinions and finding literary and arts news and reviews.

The library provides a wide range of UK and international newspapers from the 17th century to the present day, mainly in online format, but we do also have some microfilm collections. In addition, we have access to selected television news footage and news reels from the 20th and 21st Centuries. Use this resource guide to find out more about the collections to which we have access. If you need to look further afield for additional support, you may find the information below helpful.
