How to get the books & articles you need!: Getting started

This guide explains how to find the books and articles you need for your studies and what to do if the Library doesn't have them.

Getting Started...

We've got 1 million print books in the library, and 0.5 million ebooks. So if you're looking for a book, you've come to the right place!

However, with so many titles available, don't get lost in the shelves. Make sure you know the most efficient way of finding the books you want - by starting here....

Library Search

Find books, journals and other resources, whether print or electronic, using our catalogue, Library Search

When you have found the item you are looking for Library Search will tell you:

  • the Library where it is held
  • how long the book can be borrowed (long loan is four weeks, but there are one week, next day and four hour loans as well)
  • the location and shelfmark, which you will need in order to find the book on the shelf
  • the status, which will tell you if a book is out on loan and when it is due back
