Every subject area has unique and specialist types of information, which mean that you need to look beyond Library Search. Some types of information are accessed via specialist databases, for example newspapers, while others are available online.
BMJ Best Practice

Students doing a substantial placement in the NHS can access BMJ Best using their NHS Athens username and password.

  • Go to the BMJ Best practice website and login in the top right hand corner.
  • Login using the Access through your Institution on the right hand side and select Newcastle University NHS in England.
  • Enter your Athens username and password to access, where you will be asked to register an account with BMJ.
  • You will need to remember the registration details for future logins.

You would normally set up your NHS Athens account at the start of the first year of your course. If you have not done this or need to reactivate your Athens account please email for help.
