Library Marketing and Design

Why should a library concern itself with marketing & design?

It is not just enough to be here.

People can get information from all kinds of sources at any time of the day regardless of where they are via the internet. The library, however, offers context and insight alongside information, providing a more meaningful and informed experience.

Our stakeholders should see the library as the first point in their journey. They should know what is available to them, how they can access it and why we take the decisions we do. Who better to communicate this information than library staff?

By being open and engaging regularly with all our stakeholders, listening, and responding to their feedback, we will be able to create a better library experience for both us and them.

Marketing and design can help us achieve this.

This guide presents an overview of marketing and design in relation to Newcastle University Library.

It explains who you need to contact if you need work produced, provides guidance if you are thinking about starting to work in this area yourself and important documents from Newcastle University relating to marketing and social media. There is also a Resources section at the end of the guide bringing together useful links.

If you are planning an event or promotion, please be sure to contact lib-marketingandcomms@ncl.ac.uk beforehand so they can provide guidance on how and when to run the event or promotion.
