Why use our Referencing Guide?
As a University student you will need to master the academic skill of referencing - you need to include a reference whenever you use information from someone else's work. It doesn’t matter where that information came from: web sites, textbooks, journal articles, magazines, newspapers, computer programs, images, social media: if you use it, you must reference it.
This Referencing Guide will give you all the tools and skills you need to construct accurate references whilst studying at Newcastle University. This guide also introduces a variety of different reference management tools to help you not only reference, but also manage large amounts of information (PDFs, reports etc.). Have a look at our Academic Skills Kit, which further explains what referencing is and why is it so important. If you feel like you need further guidance on referencing, enrol yourself in our Teach yourself referencing Canvas module.
