Your guide to understanding copyright law and intellectual property rights

Just because an image is available for download on the web, it doesn't necessarily mean you can use it. Find out more about searching for images, identifying those that can be reused and advice for using images for educational purposes on our audiovisual resource guide.

Collections captures

Newcastle University's Special Collections team digitise items from our archive and rare books holdings and make these available online at CollectionsCaptured.

We aim to make as many of these images as possible free for re-use under the Creative Commons CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Where this is the case, it will be indicated against a particular digitised item. We are happy to provide high-resolution copies of such items free of charge on request.

Where re-using, it is asked that you acknowledge us in the following format:

[insert full item reference], [insert collection name], Newcastle University Library

Where copyright restrictions do still apply, as indicated against an item, please get in touch at lib-specenq@ncl.ac.uk
