Introducing...

Welcome!

If you’ve got a burning passion for all things social media, a creative urge that isn't being satisfied or are simply curious about the work undertaken by the Customer Services Marketing, Promotion and Feedback (CS-MPF) group, you’ve come to the right place.

This isn't training. There is no training. Think of this more as an insight in to the work that goes into producing promotional material for all our various channels. Begin by taking a look at the slideshow below. It provides a brief introduction to CS-MPF, the work undertaken by the team and why we do what we do. If this doesn't scare you off, open the design brief underneath the slideshow and work through that. We've provided a list of handy resources to get you started - do feel free to browse and explore for ones that suit your goal.

We hope you find this guide to be interesting, informative and educational. (At the very least, we hope you don't think it's completely awful!)

Design Brief

Still with us? Great. Hopefully, you’ll now be aware that Library social media is more than being sassy online and taking selfies with skeletons. Using social media within the Library allows us to reach beyond our physical building(s) to promote our services, gain useful feedback and develop relationships with students, the wider University and the public.

Deciding what to promote and when is an ongoing job for CS-MPF staff. Our content calendar is a guide to what's on within the Library, the wider University and special days throughout the year. We've included a link to the 2018/19 content calendar below for you to gain an insight on what we will and have been promoting this academic year. There's weekly hashtags such as #WednesdayWisdom or #ThrowbackThursday that provide opportunities for us to share content and engage with users. CS-MPF staff can also monitor incoming queries at the service desk and via Library help to tailor content. For example, if there's a lot of queries coming in about books not being on the shelves? It might be time to push a message about Books on Time out.

CS-MPF staff can also receive design briefs from colleagues not directly associated with social media. Below is a link to an actual design brief received by CS-MPF staff. Give it a read through and have a go at creating your own response to the brief. There's some handy resources in the next section to help you on your way!

What Next?

Do get in touch with a member of the CS-MPF team if you have any issues with the free resources we've listed above. Once you're finished and if you'd like your work to be featured on one of our channels, please send it to: cs-mpf@ncl.ac.uk where your work will be reviewed by the team. Following this, we'll be in touch and you may need to make some further revisions to your work before it's published. (Please note: there may be a small amount of constructive criticism involved - try not to take it too personally!)

And Finally...

We hope you've enjoyed this brief insight into the work of the CS-MPF team, whether you've just stopped by for a quick browse or you've stuck with it to the bitter end. If this is something you think you'd like to participate in in future, please let us know. We are always interested in adding serious, enthusiastic contributors to the team. Equally, if you think there's something we've missed here? A bit of detail we skimmed over? Pop a comment on the Padlet below and we'll do our best to address it.
