NUMed Learning Resources Centre: Rules & Regulation

This guide is designed to help you to get started using the NUMed Library

General Regulation

  • Staff and registered student of the University are entitled to use the library.
  • All staff and student MUST present their University smart card. While in the library, readers must be prepared to show their smart card when requested by any member of library staff. 
  • A quiet environment suitable for study must be maintained at all times throughout the library building. 
  • The marking, defacing, mutilation or damage to books or equipment provided by the library is STRICTLY forbidden.
  • The reservation of seats in the reading areas is not permitted.
  • Books and other items left for any length of time on chairs and tables will be removed by the Library Staff.
  • Bags, cases, parcels and any other items of personal property brought into the library must be presented for inspection if requested by library staff. 
  • The Library accepts no responsibilities for personal belongings left in the Library.
  • Library users are to switch their mobile phone to silent mode whenever in the library.
  • Notices must not be displayed or distributed by library users in any part of the Library except by or with the permission of the Library Staff, nor may library user offer anything for sale in the Library.
  • Whenever a fire alarm sounds in the Library building all library users must vacate the Library immediately.
  • Computing equipment at the LRC Ground Floor must not be used for the creation, display, importation, circulation or storage of offensive material.
  • A borrower is responsible for the return of any book which is recorded as borrowed by him or her. This responsibility ends only when the library loan is officially canceled, and those who fail to return books will be required to pay for the cost of replacement. 
  • When the book on loan is reported as lost or is not returned when requested by the library, it may be re-ordered and the borrower required to pay the cost of replacement. If the lost or damaged book was part of a set the user may be required to pay the cost of a new set if this is the only way to replace the lost part. 
  • Student who have been identified leaving their unattended belonging at study spaces will be reported to their respective Dean and action will be taken regarding such unprofessional behavior. 
  • If you received 3 consecutive warning for make too much noise in library, you will potentially be banned from the LRC and also be reported to their respective Dean.

Borrowing Privileges

Smart Card

It is to be used as your University ID Card, Access Card and Library Card. 

You need to tap this card to LRC main entrance during midnight 

Managing your loans

You can check all the items you have on loan by login to your library account. 

NUMed staff and students are eligible to borrow at any one time a MAXIMUM of 10 items. 

You can borrow a long loan item as long as you need it unless someone else reserves it. If another library user reserves an item that you have, the system will no allow you to renew it, please return it sooner if you can. 

Your borrowing privileges will be blocked if your overdue fines exceed to RM20.00.

To avoid fines:

  • Check the due date and time stated on the slip
  • Return items on time 

Types of Collection

The book been labeled with different color of call number in the spine of the books which each item class defined the types of the books as follows:

Overdue Fines

Fines are payable on items returned late.  

Fine charges vary depending on the loan period of the book and how overdue the book is.

STC 4 (4 Hours/Overnight Loan)

RM 5 immediate overdue charge plus (+) RM 1 per hour therefore

Persistent offenders may have their borrowing privileges reduced or suspended (see Library Regulations 15).

If you cannot pay the fine when you return the book, it will remain on your library record until you have paid it. If your fines being accumulated to RM 20 or more, your privileges of borrowing, renewing and hold will be blocked until you have paid.

You can pay your fines by ONLINE TRANSFER (in Ringgit Malaysia) only to NUMed's Bank Account Number.
