General Regulation

A. General Rules  

  • All University staff and registered students are entitled to use the library  
  • All staff and student MUST present their university smart card and be ready to show it when requested by staff. 
  • Bags, cases, parcels and any other items of personal property brought into the library must be presented for inspection if requested by library staff.  
  • Always keep personal belongings with you. The library is not responsible for damage, misplacement or any loss of personal belongings.  
  • Smoking, including e-cigarettes and personal vaporizers, is not allowed in the library.  
  • Pets are not allowed inside the library.  
  • Children are allowed to enter the library with parental or guardian supervision.  
  • In case of fire or other emergencies, follow emergency procedures and adhere the instruction from Fire Warden and Security team.  
  • A quiet environment suitable for study must be always maintained in the library. Mobile phones must be switched to silent mode, and any telephone calls must be made outside library to avoid disturbance to others. 

B. Use of the Library books 

  • The marking, defacing, or damage to books or equipment provided by the library is strictly forbidden. 
  • Loan periods will vary for books, depending on the type of books, and can be adjusted during vacation periods, with consultation with library staff.  
  • Removing books from the library without following borrowing procedures is not permitted. 
  • Items borrowed by an individual must not be passed on to others.  
  • Anyone found attempting to remove a library book without complying with library borrowing procedures may be reported to the Library Manager.  
  • Borrowers are responsible for the return of any book issued under their name. This responsibility ends after the items are returned.  
  • Books must be returned or renewed before or on the due date to avoid overdue charges. The overdue charges will vary for books, depending on the type of book.  
  • If a borrowed book is returned damaged, lost, or goes missing while still on loan, the borrower will be required to cover the full replacement cost. This includes the price of the book plus a RM20 processing fee. 
  • Users can borrow up to 10 books at a time. 
  • Users may renew each book twice, unless someone else has requested it. If the books requested by others, users must return the books before the due date. 
  • Access or borrowing rights will be suspended for any user with overdue charges totalling RM20 or more.  

C. Use of the Library and its services 

  • Leave the books on the designated carts after use so staff can properly return or reshelve them.  
  • The reserving of seats is not permitted. Books and other items left on tables and chairs for longer period will be removed by library staff. 
  • Users are not allowed to modify or reposition any furniture 
  • Items left in the library at closing time will be cleared away. The library accepts no responsibility for personal belongings left unattended. 
  • Notices must not be displayed in the designated areas. The library reserves the right to remove any notices which have been put up anywhere other than in these spaces. 
  • Computing equipment at the LRC Ground Floor must not be used for the creation, display, importation, circulation or storage of offensive material. 
  • Users who are found causing inconvenience to others or leaving personal belongings unattended in study spaces will be reported to their respective Dean after receiving three consecutive warnings from library staff. An appropriate action will be taken for such unprofessional behaviour.  
  • Graduated students are no longer eligible to borrow books. However, if you need to borrow books for a short period after graduation, please contact the Library Manager and indicate the purpose of use. Graduates may be allowed to borrow books for up to one month after their graduation date.

Borrowing Privileges

Smart Card

It is to be used as your University ID Card, Access Card and Library Card. 

You need to tap this card to LRC main entrance after 9pm 

Managing your loans

You can check all the items you have on loan by login to your library account. 

NUMed staff and students are eligible to borrow at any one time a MAXIMUM of 10 items. 

You can borrow a long loan item as long as you need it unless someone else reserves it. If another library user reserves an item that you have, the system will no allow you to renew it, please return it sooner if you can. 

Your borrowing privileges will be blocked if your overdue fines exceed to RM20.00.

To avoid fines:

  • Check the due date and time stated in your library account (login to PrimoVE or check at the Self Loan Kiosk)
  • Return items on time 

Types of Collection

The book been labeled with different color of call number in the spine of the books which each item class defined the types of the books as follows:

Overdue Fines

Fines are payable on items returned late.  

Fine charges vary depending on the loan period of the book and how overdue the book is.

Persistent offenders may have their borrowing privileges reduced or suspended.

If you cannot pay the fine when you return the book, it will remain on your library record until you have paid it. If your fines being accumulated to RM 20 or more, your privileges of borrowing, renewing and hold will be blocked until you have paid.

You can pay your fines by ONLINE TRANSFER (in Ringgit Malaysia) only to NUMed's Bank Account Number.
