The University supports the latest version of EndNote, currently EndNote 21, which is available in all clusters and on any University-owned machine
If you are working with an earlier version on a University PC you can request an upgrade to the latest version through NUIT. Newcastle University has a site licence for EndNote and it can be installed on any University-owned machine free of charge if you make your request to the IT Service Desk.
The University Site Licence allows installation of EndNote on staff and student personal machines.
To request a download of EndNote please use the Request Endnote for Personal Use form. The IT Service Desk will then send you instruction on how to access the software.
Note: this copy of EndNote is only for use whilst you remain at Newcastle University and must be removed if and when you leave.
EndNote Online and EndNote Web are both browser-based tools for managing references, to access these you must active your account via an EndNote Desktop Application (either using a Campus PC or by downloading a copy to your personal device). Both EndNote Online and EndNote Web offer unlimited file attachment storage, space for storing up to 1 million references and the ability to use Cite While You Write with Microsoft Word. The online versions give you the freedom to access your EndNote Library anywhere and provide a useful back up when synced with the desktop version. EndNote Web is newer and only available to those using EndNote 21 or EndNote 25.
You will need to download a free plugin in order to use EndNote online and Endnote Web with Word.
See our FAQ for more on differences between EndNote Online and EndNote Web.
