Accessing EndNote

The University supports the latest version of EndNote, currently EndNote 21, which is available in all clusters and on any University-owned machine
If you are working with an earlier version on a University PC you can request an upgrade to the latest version through your Computing Officer or NUIT. Newcastle University has a site licence for EndNote and it can be installed on any University-owned machine free of charge (email software@ncl.ac.uk).

The University Site Licence allows installation of EndNote on staff and student personal machines.

To request a download of EndNote please submit a request via the NUIT Service System. On the Support Portal homepage, choose 'Request Something' then search for 'Endnote'. Select 'Request EndNote Personal Use' from the results and complete the request form.

Note: this copy of EndNote is only for use whilst you remain at Newcastle University and must be removed if and when you leave.

EndNote online is a web-based version of the reference management tool that gives you the freedom to work wherever you have an Internet connection. It is possible to use it independently or in sync with the EndNote desktop software. There is a sync button on both the Desktop and Online versions, which allows you to synchronize your libraries with any references you have added in your other version.

A basic version of EndNote is freely available online, it provides 2GB of storage, space for 50,000 references and access to the top 21 most commonly used citation styles. However, as you have access to a University desktop version of EndNote, we recommend using this to create your online account first as it provides some additional benefits to the basic version, including unlimited record and file storage and two years of roaming access.

You can access the online version of EndNote via myendnoteweb.com where you will log in with your EndNote account details. The EndNote online interface is slightly different to the desktop version so, you may like to take the time to familiarise yourself with it using our EndNote Online Workbook.

It is possible to use EndNote on your Mac and also on your ipad.

Mac

See the video below which covers using EndNote desktop and EndNote online with Word on a Mac. EndNote is also compatible with Apple's Pages software but you will need to install the Pages EndNote plug-in.

iPad

An Endnote for iPad App is available as is guidance from Clarivate on how to use Endnote on your iPad.

Alternatives

Papers software is Apple's own reference management software.

Please note that the EndNote Support Team is not able to support Mac users, although we will do our best to point you to useful information.
