If you see an 'Illegal Institution' message, it likely involves your Internet browser not storing third-party cookies.

Please select the help tab on this box which matches with the browser you are using for instructions to solve this problem.

We recommend using Chrome as your default browser.

  • Click on the cog icon in the top right hand corner.
  • Then select internet options.
  • On the new window which has appeared, click on the Privacy tab. Then choose advanced.
  • You can tick to override automatic cookie handling and then select to accept third party cookies.
  • A more secure solution would be to add the reading list system as an exception. To do this, from the privacy tab, click on sites.
  • Enter eu01.alma.exlibrisgroup.com in the address of website section.
  • Click Allow, then OK and Apply/OK to save the changes.
  • Try accessing the Reading List through the VLE again; if this does not work then please contact readinglists@ncl.ac.uk.
  • Open the menu in the top right hand corner by clicking on the three dots.
  • Choose settings from the list.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the list which has appeared and choose Advanced.
  • A new section appears called "privacy and settings".
  • Within that section select "content settings".
  • From there, select Cookies and check whether third party cookies are blocked.
  • You can choose to unblock all third party cookies, but a more secure option would be at the reading list system as an exception.
  • To do this, click on ADD on the allow line.
  • Enter eu01.alma.exlibrisgroup.com.
  • Close the settings tab and try accessing the Reading List through the VLE again; if this does not work then please contact readinglists@ncl.ac.uk.
  • Click on the settings option in the top right hand corner (icon looks like 3 lines) and choose Options.
  • From the navigation bar, choose Privacy.
  • Check whether third party cookies are blocked. You can allow them all by default but a more secure option is to add an exception for the reading list system.
  • To do this, click the exceptions button and add eu01.alma.exlibrisgroup.com.
  • Then click on Allow and then Save changes.
  • Close the Options tab and try accessing the Reading List through the VLE again; if this does not work then please contact readinglists@ncl.ac.uk.
