Law Library Headcounts

The University Library and Students’ Union wants us to ensure all students can see what study space is available. This is presented on the Library’s webpage and via a ‘live’ system, updated throughout the day.

Law Library headcounts must be recorded at the following times during opening hours.

Headcounts will take place:

  • Monday-Friday 9:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm3:30pm.
    • The final headcount at 3:30 will be completed daily by the Law Library Student Aides

Use the iPad available in the Law Library Office to record the headcount.

  • On the iPad, press the Home key to unlock the screen
  • The passcode to access the iPad is 7944
  • Select the Safari icon from the menu at the bottom of the screen

Even if the App looks as though it is logged in, log in again. If using the Library Help Desk PC, close and reopen Chrome before inputting the headcount data.

  • Select the + in the browser menu to open a new tab
  • Select the Head Count bookmark - https://internal.ncl.ac.uk/library/ssa/
  • At the Login Gateway, enter the username and password recorded in the Student Aides' File (Daily Jobs section)
  • Using the option to the right-hand side of the pane, Select a Library: Law Library
  • Enter the number of occupants for each room. If no-one is in the room, enter 0 (zero)
  • If the headcount was recorded at a different time to the information being input, please use the calendar/time tool appropriately
  • Check the data - it is going live and needs to be correct
  • Submit all once complete

When Submit all is selected at the end of the count, the data may not be submitted if the login has timed out, and there is no indication of this.

If the data has been received by the server then a 'Successfully recorded space availability' message will appear on the screen.  Please check this has been recorded by checking the live Latest space availability display which will update 5-10 minutes later

The App divides the library by room and, behind the scenes, by study space type (i.e. silent, quiet, collaborative).
