Borrowing a book

With self issue machines on Levels 2, 3, and 4, borrowing books from the Library couldn't be easier - all you need is your smartcard. Take a look at the video below to see how it works.

If you have a problem with a self issue machine or receive an unexpected error message make your way to the Library Help desk on Level 2 where staff are available to investigate and will issue the books directly to you.

You can borrow a long loan book for as long as you need it unless someone else reserves it, and we will send you an email to let you know when any books are due back. Your loans will automatically be added to your individual library account on Library Search, which you can access via the Library website or the University App.  In your account you can check the due date details on all of your books, see the status of any reservation requests, and access your messages.

Click and Collect

The quickest way to get the books you need is to visit our buildings and browse the shelves, but if you want to minimise your time at the Library, you can use our Click & Collect service to request items that are on the shelf at any Library. You can then collect them at a convenient time from the Philip Robinson Library or Walton Library.
